Izzy

Introduction to anxiety

“Sissy,” Bobby calls as soon as he rounds the corner of the unit and spots me. He rushes toward me, eager to be with us but he stops again when he gets a closer look. I know he’s seeing me pale and sickly looking, and I know he worries.

Yeah, I’m tired, and sore, and a little dizzy, but I’m okay. I have everything I’ll ever need in my grasp. I have my baby nestled against me, suckling me half to death, and I have Jimmy, I finally have Jimmy, holding my spare hand. Yeah, I’m okay.

“I’m fine, Bobby,” I reassure him before he asks then I snuggle into his embrace when he leans down and hugs me gently.

“I’m getting fed up with seeing my girls in hospital.”

“Sorry, B, but we kinda knew this one was coming though, right?”

“Bit early, Sissy. You scared me.”

“I’m sorry. But ah, Uncle B, I’d like to introduce you to my daughter. Our daughter,” I tell him, choking over my words, not because I don’t mean them but because I’m just so nervous. “This is Lucy, and she’s your brand new niece.”

“Hi there Lucy, you beautiful little thing,” he coos and strokes her face even while she is still latched to my breast. It’s like he doesn’t really notice she’s nursing, he’s just happy to meet her. “I heard you had a rough time of it, baby girl? But you’re in beast mode, right? You’re a Rollin baby, you’re strong.”

“Yeah, she had a rough time but she’s perfect now. Just a little medicine and she’ll be all set,” I tell him. “The nurses said as long as she stays normal and healthy, despite being early, she’s plenty big enough that we can go home in a few days.”

“That’s so cool. I’m still pissed you moved out, I really wanted to live with this beauty for a while.”

“Sorry B, but that’s my job,” Jim says, winking at me and my heart tumbles.

“Yeah, I heard about that. That’s a pretty ring you got there, Sissy.”

I feel the heat sneak up over my chest and into my face. “Yeah,” I murmur shyly.

“Congratulations, Izzy. I swear to god, I’m so fucking happy for you. For you both.”

“Thanks, B.”

“I bet there’s a story for this?”

“Yeah, we’ll tell you when we get some spare time.”

“Can I hold?” Bobby asks, giddy with excitement and I smile. She’s sound asleep and finished eating so I let Jim lift her, where he smothers her in kisses before passing her over. Then Bobby tucks her into his chest like he’s been doing this forever.

“That looks good on you,” I tell him after I finish retying my gown. It’s one thing to feed her in front of him, a wholly other thing to leave my boob hanging in the wind.

Although that’s kind of what I feel like doing now. Earlier today Bean’s nursing didn’t hurt, but she’s attached to me forty five minutes out of every hour now. My poor nips are starting to get sore.
